Laura's 40th Challenge! Raising Funds for RNTNE Hospital London!!!
Fundraising for UCLH Charity
Fundraising for UCLH Charity
Hi to all my lovely friends!
Challenge Accomplished!!!!! Please read the end to see how it went!!!!Firstly, I would like to thank you for looking at my page and considering sponsoring me.
As some of you know, my son Harry, who is now 18 years old, has suffered from suppuritive ototis media, which is a chronic ear condition all his life. This has meant that he has had to endure several major operations since the age of 5 years old.
These have included small ops such as grommets and T tube insertions, to larger ones, to remove diseased skull bone as well as removing unsafe cholesteatoma infections from his middle ear which continually reoccur. These operations are life saving. This illness does not go away and needs constant care from specialists to manage it. We all have a very positive outlook on the illness and Harry copes very well with the side affects which are hearing loss and pain. Harry has also taught himself how to lip read extremely well!
Harry leads a completely normal life and manages to keep up with school work even when he needs hospital care. His illness has really inspired him, so much so, that he now wants to become an ENT Doctor himself, so that he can help others.
His illness is managed through a wonderful team of people at the Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital in London. We cannot praise them enough. Mr Lavy and his team work extremely hard on helping and treating Harry! For this reason I would like to raise any amount of money to help them keep providing the service that they do so well and to help contribute back for what they provide to us which is priceless!
So .........I woke up on new year's day and thought..... how can I make a difference this year? Having already completed a few Marathons, untold amounts of half marathons as well as a tough guy challenge I thought I know ....... A SKYDIVE!!!!
So mad as it may seem, that's what I have organised. I will be jumping 13,000ft out of an aircraft (with an instructor Phew!). oh yes, and I am absolutely PETRIFIED of heights!
This is happening on 6th July this year in Beccles, suffolk.
So may I please ask you to consider sponsoring me to undertake this challenge of a lifetime. Every small amount really will benefit the Hospital for both its research and providing care.
Thank you so very much Indeed xxxx

UPDATE!!!!!!
Just a brief note to update you all after this weeks visit to see Mr Lavy.
Mr Lavy is very confident that he will be able to remove the cholesteatomas, rebuild the ear drum and perhaps water proof it as well as try to bring up harry's hearing slightly on the left side. He has decided that this can wait until Harry has taken all his final exams this year.
Therefore Harry will have his operation at the end of June.
We are very pleased that this is possible and are hopeful that it will be successful.
Thanks again for all your support!
Love Laws xxxxx
Update 28th June!
As an update they have yesterday successful removed diseased bone from Harry’s ear and skull, reformed the inside of his ear cavity with cartilage from his outer ear, and rebuilt the ear drum. They have then put a titanium implant to connect the sound from the drum to the ear cavity hopefully enabling Harry to hear better. We are thrilled with how Harry is doing and he is even managing to play PSP games in bed already.
WOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
Challenge Accomplished!!!!!!
OH MY GOSH! WHAT CAN I SAY?... AMAZING, WONDERFUL, FANTASTIC, UNBELIEVABLE, ....................................So after hitting the road for 5.30am (Unheard of if not running with the girls!) Harry, Ella, Bonnie and I made our way to Beccles (not so glamourous airfield, "toilets were really bad" said Ella!).
We met my mum, dad and my wonderful amazing friend Lisa and her husband Brett with children Laila, Tegan and Craig. Well, the weather was not looking good and after having a briefing for 20 mins!!, we were told to wait in the cafe until the weather improved. By around midday most people had gone home and rebooked for another day, but not I! The children and Bonnie found an unused barn full of a large heap of grain to play in for hours on end. That was it we were staying and waiting. Eventually the rain stopped and the sun almost came out!
Yahooooo! The instructor came to get us and I sprinted to get first in line. After "attractive" jumpsuiting up, and headwearing a cone, We boarded what I would describe as the "smallest" plane I had ever seen.......inside, it was very close for comfort, good job the instructors were fit. We took off and headed 13,000 ft into the air. I was so excited and couldn't wait to jump. A nice man called Andy was jumping with me and explained again what to do then it was time to go! Everything went so fast from that moment onwards.
Sitting on the edge of the plane, the camera man balancing on the outside ridge waiting for us to go. Andy hung me out of the plane so that my feet were under the plane and my hands across my chest then we just fell. It was incredible the speed and force....well....I shall attach the dvd to this site as soon as it arrives (around a week). First you see land then sky then land again. Then you can enjoy the free fall at 120 miles per hour for around a minute. The view was wonderful we could see the coast of Yarmouth. I was enjoying it so much that Andy let me steer by holding the handles above me and do a little trick. I pulled the right one hard and we did a very fast tight circle called the corkscrew, really cool! The whole jump lasted about 8 mins and felt like 30 secs.
I have succeeded in achieving one of my personal ultimate goals along with all your very kind and generous sponsorship for the UCLH team that look after Harry so amazingly well. I cant thank you all enough! Harry is mending well and did come to see the jump but as it was such a long wait he felt to tired to stay. He was extremely pleased that I did it and has been truly overwhelmed with everyone's generosity.
And oh yes I have decided that my birthday is my 39th this year as I want an excuse to do something more extreme next year!
THANKS XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
