I’m running the 10K again this year (after getting completely out of practice) to help the charity FORWARD in their mission to
fight Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)

Like most people, I’ve been aware of FGM (also known as Female Circumcision) for a few years now. However, the agony of the reality of
this practice was never as clear to me as when I watched a first person account from a Leyla Hussein; a survivor of FGM. One sentence from her heart-wrenching account really stuck with me; “If this was white girls it was happening to, there would be outrage”. She’s right. We need to be outraged. This is child abuse and female control and it needs to be confronted and stopped.

FORWARD (Foundation for Women’s Health Research and
Development) is the leading African women-led organisation working on FGM, child marriage and other forms of violence against women and girls in the UK and Africa.
