Story
Thankyou for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page. I am raising money for Cardiomyopathy UK, the heart muscle charity which is something that means a lot to me and my family.
The Challenge
In April 2024, I'm taking part in one of the most iconic sporting events in the UK, running 26.2 miles in the TCS London Marathon.
This is my first full marathon and although it has always been on my bucket list as something I wanted to do, I am also petrified about taking on such a huge challenge.
The Cause
My Father-in-Law David suffered a cardiac arrest in 2015 and was subsequently diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) which is a condition that causes areas of the heart muscle to become thickened and stiff and makes it harder for the heart to contract and pump blood. David now has an internal defibrillator which also helps to control his heartbeat.
Since then, he has suffered further cardiac arrests and complications which has resulted in several hospital admissions.
David's condition has had a huge impact on our family after nearly losing him several times. HCM can be a genetic condition and so my Husband and his siblings have had to have genetic testing and will have to undergo regular screenings as will our two daughters.
I am hoping to raise as much money as possible which will all go to Cardiomyopathy UK to help keep up their support work and raising awareness of the disease.I understand that money is tight for so many people right now and I am so grateful and appreciative for every penny that people can donate.
