Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page,
On May 22nd I am running, along with Dave and his work Colleagues, the Great Manchester Run 10k.
Last year our family friend, Rob, passed away and after speaking with his wife, Heather, I decided to do this run in his memory and to raise some funds towards a condition that became a main factor in their lives. I have known Heather and Rob all my life, but became closer with them when travelling New Zealand, they took my friend and I in and showed us the sites for a few weeks.
In Heather's words - this is their story:
“Following the death of my mother, I was unwell for several months before I was diagnosed with MS in 2010. It was an awful time. Not only was I trying to deal with it but it was also very hard on my husband Rob. Living with MS is hard work. But Rob was wonderful! He supported me through a bad time and I have been able to lead a reasonably normal life as ‘a person with MS’ and, with a few adjustments and ‘concessions’ we were able to continue enjoying our love of travelling. In all ways I am one of the lucky ones ~ I have relapsing/remitting MS which is the mildest form of the disease, and I had my lovely Rob. Through the MS Trust I have met people who have the advanced stage of the disease, some are in wheelchairs.
We were devastated when Rob was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2015. And because of the wonderful care and support that I received I was then able to care for him ~ and to have the privilege of sharing his journey. Sadly, as you know, the outcome was not what we had been hoping for and Rob died on 5 August 2015.”
