Story
In 2012, Pancreatic cancer took one of the most important men in our lives. Pete was not only my children's grandad, my husband's dad, my father in law...but he was our friend, our rock and our hero. There are no words to describe how much we all miss him.
Pete had one year from diagnosis, which unfortunately, compared to many others, was a long time.
Now, nearly 5 years on, and only one year since I began running, I have decided to run the London Marathon in his memory.
I can hear Pete saying to me now 'what do ya wanna go and do that for gal?' whilst also giving me a reassuring 'you can do it' squeeze on the shoulder!
'Pancreatic Cancer Action' are such a worthy cause, one that is obviously close to our families hearts. I want to help spread awareness of this awful disease, and inform people how to spot symptoms and hopefully improve early diagnosis.
Statistics show that 26 people are newly diagnosed EVERY day, and only 5% of those diagnosed, survive beyond 5 years!
Currently, Pancreatic cancer only receives 3% of cancer research funding. And with this information, I want to raise as much as I can so that this charity can continue doing the amazing work that they do. More awareness needs to be raised and the statistics need to change!
Please help me on my quest to do this. I have set myself a huge challenge and I need all the help and support I can get.
Thank you all in advance! xx
