Story
The Sussex Beacon supports people in Sussex who are living with HIV.
In 2021, I worked as the doctor at the Sussex Beacon for 4 months, and met some incredible people. I ran the Brighton Half for them last year, but this year I'm going one step further!
Being given the opportunity to run the London Marathon is a bucket list achievement for me! So, thank you for your generous donations - the thought of the money we've raised will be just the motivation I need to get through 26.2 miles!
Changes in medication now mean that an HIV diagnosis is no longer the issue it once was, however for the most vulnerable, it's still a constant challenge. Living with HIV you are much more likely to develop secondary conditions like diabetes, dementia, cardiovascular disease or kidney disease - regardless of how well-controlled your HIV is. Many of our patients need social care and help with their day to day lives as well as increasingly mental health support. A lot of our patients are also ageing with HIV and are increasing frail and more prone to other infections. They are also more likely to be living alone or isolated and prone to depression and poor mental health. The Sussex Beacon is here offering specialised support for everyone living with HIV in Sussex.
