On 23rd April I will be lacing up my running shoes to run the London Marathon (yikes!) - my first London, second marathon!

Last September, Greg and I spent a week in the beautiful Montenegrin town of Kotor, well-known for its stunning coastline, friendly people and delicious food. After some last-minute research on the way to the airport, I was excited to discover that Kotor is often referred to by locals as "The City of Cats". 

Those of you that know me will know just how OBSESSED I am with the furry little bundles of joy, so I was soon in my element and made lots of feline friends during the week!

However, it soon became clear that there was a tragic and uncontrollable overpopulation of stray cats, and as a self-confessed crazy cat-lady, it was really heart-breaking to see so many hungry cats roaming the streets without a home to call their own.

I have therefore chosen to raise money for Kotor Kitties, a charity committed to reducing the suffering of Montenegro’s feline population.

The charity unites the concern of tourists, the skill of local veterinarians, and the compassion of local people to provide a humane solution for the overpopulation issue: Montenegro’s first sterilization program of High Quality-High Volume Spaying and Neutering and a new Trap-Neuter-Return program. Whilst mainly focussed on cats, the program also helps dogs and all other stray animals.

It not only helps cut the overall population of cats in Kotor and throughout Montenegro, but prevents the health problems of overbreeding and the hormone-related behavioural problems associated with unsterilized cats. 

Since being set up in September 2018, Kotor Kitties has spayed and neutered 7769 cats (as of 8th Jan 2023).
