Story
HEART UK - The Cholesterol Charity work to prevent premature deaths from high cholesterol; a major risk factor for heart attacks and strokes. As a specialist nurse, I know the burden that heart disease has on many people's lives. In fact it accounts for a quarter of all deaths in the UK and can significantly reduce quality of life for survivors. I have sadly seen this first hand during the years spent working in critical care and is part of the reason I have such a passion for heart disease prevention.
In 2013, my Dad suffered a sudden heart attack and now has two stents thanks to the wonderful care and expertise at Harefield Hospital. My Dad who has always been keenly into fitness also completed the London marathon at age 40 so his heart attack was a big shock to all. I am very lucky that he can still train me!
I work alongside HEART UK and the work they do for not only the public but also ‘us’ as a team of professionals is admirable. We care for patients with the genetic form of high cholesterol (familial hypercholesterolaemia) and with the help of Heart UK we are able to offer patients support and ongoing management to ensure they do not also become a statistic. The money raised will help the charity continue their vital work, raising awareness of the risks of high cholesterol, providing much-needed help, advice and support to those diagnosed and campaigning for people to get the best care and treatment.
Please help me if you can, no donation is too small, it will give me the motivation on October 2nd to complete the 26.2 miles. I have sadly just lost a month of training so any encouragement would be gratefully received.
Bro; the last 6 miles are for you, those miles represent your last 6 mile walk, when my legs are sore and tired, I will persevere just like you did. I am proud of you every day and I love and miss you every day.
