Children and young people with epilepsy are more likely to suffer from anxiety and depression than their peers, EPIC offers them support.

Story

I did it!!!!    I wasn’t exactly speedy but I did make it round with a smile on my face (mostly!)

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Epic is a charity run in Gloucestershire by a group of parents of children with epilepsy.  Since 2014 we have been fund raising to provide much needed support for children with epilepsy, who are much more likely to suffer from anxiety and depression than their peers.

Our aim is to provide the extra help these children need by funding tailored support from healthcare professionals and equipment which can make a direct impact on their lives.  The EEG machine we funded, which is used to diagnose epilepsy, means that Gloucestershire children no longer need to travel to Bristol or London but can be seen in Gloucester.

We now fund  a dedicated counsellor working to support children suffering from a range of mental health issues related to epilepsy.  So far, the help she has provided has made an incredible difference to these children.  Some words form the children: 'I have felt more able to go outside without having to worry what looks people give me'  and 'I liked all the activities me and the counsellor did and it really helped me and now I can sleep in my own bed'.

We now want to raise money to continue and expand this service.

Having walked the Cotswold Way and run the Cheltenham Half Marathon to raise money for Epic, I have decided to try something harder this time and am going to attempt to run the New York Marathon on 3rd November.   I've had a few injuries and wasn't sure if I was going to be able to make it but I seem to be more or less back on track so am going to go for it!!   I've never run a marathon so am frankly pretty scared, but am hoping that the scenery will distract me from my creaking joints!

If for any reason I don't make it round, I will have another go at a marathon within the year.
