10YFan in memory of Josh

10 Y Fan 2019 · 11 May 2019 to 12 May 2019 ·
** UPDATE **
After a painful yet epic 23 hours and 20 minutes I DID IT! 10 laps, done. 10YFan, DONE.
And I cannot thank everyone for their immense support enough. The words of support, those who came and joined me, the donations... everything. You're incredible and we've raised a whopping amount so THANK YOU. Thank you, thank you, thank you. xx
---------------------------------------------------
First off, thank you for visiting my JustGiving page. If you've clicked on the link that means you're mildly interested in what I'm doing and why. Which is fab.
On 11 May 2019 I will be taking part in the 10YFan challenge in honour of my god-brother, Josh, who tragically and unexpectedly passed away last year from SADS (Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome)* at the age of 28.
I will be attempting to climb Pen Y Fan, the highest mountain in South Wales, 10 times in 24 hours. Pen y Fan is 2,907 ft and Everest is 29,029 feet, so you could say that if I complete 10YFan, it is the equivalent of climbing Everest… Youch.
It sounds terrifying, it’s hard as nails and I imagine it’ll be the most painful, gruelling, frustrating and emotional challenge of my life. But a mere 24 hours is nothing to the pain, frustration and hardship felt by everyone who knew and loved Josh.
When I say he was my god-brother, most people stare back with a puzzled expression. What I mean is that Josh’s parents are my godparents, and mine are his. So we’re god siblings.
He was one of the warmest, funniest, most mischievous, brilliant, talented, intelligent, inspiring, charming, adventurous… downright ridiculous at times man. He was a huge part of so many people’s lives and is missed inexplicably every day.
While Josh's main passions and talents were acting and comedy (which he made pretty damn clear from a very young age, prancing about flamboyantly in a dress for EVERY play we put on for the parents!), one of my stand-out memories I have of our childhood together was his sense of adventure often shown through all the countryside strolls our families took together – if you could drag him down from the highest branch of a tree, that is!
And while I can’t think of many countryside walks worse than climbing Pen Y Fan 10 times in 24 hours, I reckon he’d quite like the challenge.
So. In support of Josh, I’m going to get my unfit-as-they-come ass into gear and take on this climb, hopefully raising a helluva lot of dollar for the British Heart Foundation to support their research into SADS. No one should have to go through what Josh, his family and his friends have had to, so I hope this donation page will help fund research and raise awareness into this heart-breaking and utterly unreasonable syndrome.
I would be so grateful for your support and donations to this important cause.
THANK YOU X.

The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives. It's only thanks to support from people like us that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures. £24 could pay for two hours of research by an early career scientist, but every pound helps so please give what you can to help me hit my target. Thanks!
