Story
"As many of you know, back in October 2020, Alfie was diagnosed with stage 3 Nasopharyngeal cancer – news which devastated our family. Over the next year, rounds of intense chemo, radiotherapy, and immunotherapy followed, and thankfully, he was later given the all-clear.
During this time, we were contacted by the Owen McVeigh Foundation.
This Foundation has been set up in memory of Owen McVeigh, who was only 11 years old when he passed away after a short diagnosis with leukemia. The purpose of the charity is to raise funds to help and enrich the lives of children who are ill with cancer and their families in the local area. The Owen McVeigh Foundation is a registered charity, number 1167794.
The support they offered me, Alfie, & the boys was amazing and really boosted his morale during the darkest of times: trips to Peacock Lodge, football games, memorabilia, Christmas parties, & always an understanding ear to listen. Even now, they are still in contact, always offering support.
On 7th of April, me and my niece Elle (Alfie's cousin) and brother-in-law Gaz Hartley (Alfie's uncle) will be running the London half marathon. For me and Elle, having never run before, we will really be pushing ourselves and would be grateful for any donations to help this amazing charity.
The pain we feel off this marathon is nothing compared to what those kids and families have to endure.
Please support The Owen McVeigh Foundation at The London Landmarks Half Marathon on 7th April 2024. Funds from this event will help us to continue to create life memories for children living with cancer in the Merseyside area."
