Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In January 2018, my Niece, Eve was diagnosed with an AVM on the brain.
An arteriovenous malformation is the term used to describe a tangle of blood vessels with abnormal connections between arteries and veins. An AVM can occur anywhere in the body but brain and spinal AVMs present substantial risks when they bleed. This condition only affects around 1% of the population!
The condition causes Eve to suffer severe headaches, nausea and as of last week she suffered her first seizure. She is 14yrs old. In July 2018, Eve underwent gamma knife surgery. A non-invasive radiation procedure to try to slow and gradually clog the flow of blood to the AVM. This can take a number of years to even know if it was successful and the risks in the meantime, remain.
Eve has had to change her lifestyle at just 14yrs old. She cannot risk her blood pressure being raised for the risk of a bleed and yet she takes it on the chin and continues with the determination and courage that you would not expect from a young girl. We are incredibly proud of her.
The Butterfly Avm charity is the first of its kind to fund the awareness and research of this incredibly rare condition.
I am taking on the challenge of Snowdon. Something that terrifies me. I am not the fittest of people, 3 flights of stairs at work leaves me breathless but I want to do this to raise money for this charity so close to My heart.
