GTR100 Laura Ansell

Ironman Staffordshire 70.3 · 12 June 2016 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My first ever triathlon was with Gordon Ramsay and the team last year at Staffordshire 70.3. It didn't go too well for me...
Plagued by depression and chronic Cholecystitis, I wasn't able to train consistently for the triathlon. I felt completely under prepared and overwhelmed at the starting line, but knew I would keep going until a race official told me to stop and kindly remove myself from the course.
I just kept going, and going, and going...
Until I suddenly realised that I was the last person allowed to finish the race, but only had 40 minutes to complete 4.5 miles around the Shugborough estate before I would be thrown off and not allowed the finish I'd worked for. I dug deep, and I ignored the brutal shin splints, constant vommitting and exhaustion - and went for the famous 'Laura Ansell, you ARE an Ironman' finish!
I got my finish. I may have crossed that finish line last, but cross it I did.
This year, I want to go back and prove to myself that I CAN do better! I've battled depression, and I've come out the other side -positive, strong, and ready for the next challenge.
GOSH were instrumental in my prenatal care when we were told that my son would be born with type 6 (worst case) bilateral Talipes. They helped me understand the congenital defect, and looked after me while I was tested for underlying issues.
When Harrison was born, their Ponsetti team took great care of Harrison's feet and corrections. They put me in touch with 'STEPS' charity and helped Keith and I care for Harrison while he underwent the most intensive part of his treatment. 4 years on, and you wouldn't know Harrison ever had an issue. Harrison will need a tendon transfer when he's approximately 8 years old, and will need to keep wearing his 'boots and bar' at 14 hours at night until he's 5 years old.
Nothing holds back my son, and nothing will hold back his Mum either!
Thank you for supporting this brilliant charity and cause.
