Story
Throughout my school life, I was always the skinny asthmatic ginger kid who was slightly introverted. I never did much sport and blamed it on my asthma but since entering sixth form and deciding which direction I want my life to go in, I decided I wanted to study medicine. At first I didn't think it would be that difficult, just get good grades and some work experience and you were all set to become a doctor. However, after the arduous hours I've spent searching for work experience to no avail, I realised just how hard it really is. Luckily, Lattitude Global Volunteering accepted me to volunteer in a Japanese Red Cross hospital for 6 months in 2015. The reasons that I think this is important is that not only will I be able to help the people who need it in the hospital but I'll also be able to talk with professionals in the fields I wish to study. I will also have to learn Japanese in order to communicate properly which I think will open opportunities for me in the future. After the experience is over I can already predict that I'll be a more mature, well-rounded person capable of studying medicine and eventually helping others for myself.
I am currently balancing my A-level school studies at A2 level with a part-time job in an attempt to earn enough money to pay for fees, flights, insurance, a visa etc but with the amount of income I'm generating, it won't be possible for me to go. Therefore I'm looking to also raise funds by taking part in events such as the Bath Half marathon in March. Completing the event would be an amazing feat for me given my fitness level but I'm committed and will do whatever it takes to get there. The money goes straight to Lattitude from my JustGiving page, thanks for your generosity.
