Like many men my age (56) that time to visit the doctor to have my prostate checked was put off and put off.....but sometimes the symptoms were embarrassing to me and needing to pee increasingly frequently was obvious to anyone I was with.....

Anyway, it seems that an enlarged prostate isn't necessarily cancer....and the checks were done, enough to convince me I was just getting older and need to keep an eye on things!

BUT, the process is scary. PSI test results vary depending on all sorts of variables and jumping to hideous conclusions after an unexpected result was an anxious time. And its important to be very circumspect about scary stories about the potential treatments.

So...more research needs to be done so that unnecessary treatments are avoided and the treatment when necessary is effective with minimum side effects, whether its drugs, the knife or radio-therapies......Prostate Cancer UK are doing all this.
