Story
On Friday 16th September I'll be starting a 10 day challenge to cycle 1000km for the MS Society.
My cousin Greg lived the last 20 years of his life significantly affected by Multiple Sclerosis. In that time I've had the opportunity to do and try so many things he never got to experience from the exciting to the daily stuff we take for granted. With just 3 weeks between us in age, we grew up with very similar childhoods, hitting milestones together and making family memories but things changed dramatically from our mid twenties. Greg's humour, stoicism, gritty determination over these challenging years for him have been an inspiration.
In 2010 we completed the Sport Relief mile together in Milton Keynes with Greg trusting me to run pushing him in a wheelchair around the course! 🏃🏻♀️ We also shared the Edinburgh Marathon for MS with Greg joining me from his home on a seated foot cycle 🚲 . He has taught me how MS and living with a disability is the real feat of endurance and stamina on a daily basis, not the one off events that get rewarded with a shiny medal.
I'm so thankful for my body and for what it can do so it seems only right that I use it to raise money as a tribute to Greg's life to support the amazing work of the MS Society; researching cures, treatment and offering support to people living with this horrid condition. Given our track record with wheels it had to be a cycling challenge.
To add to the challenge I will be fitting the pedalling in around my usual full time work training and coaching clients. So apologies in advance for the stifled yawns and the aroma of Deep Heat in the gym!
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and supporting the challenge. Coffees and vaseline also gratefully received 😆
