Story
Aloha,
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving Page.
Since you came here you may or may not know that I have been given the incredible opportunity to make a real difference with VSO ICS volunteering overseas.
I will be leaving to go to ZAMBIA as a Volunteer Team Leader in September 2017 to help educate young people on sexual reproductive health matters and work together with local and UK volunteers to address needs in the community for 4 months.
Both VSO (Voluntary Service Overseas) and ICS (International Citizen Service) work with communities in developing countries that asked for their help to tackle poverty and other health, educational and/ or livelihood factors in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
To help these communities, VSO ICS inspire and call for young people in the UK with a passion in helping people to become actively engaged, using their skills and passions to help other communities around the world where they need it most.
The first part of my volunteering journey starts by raising £800 towards the incredible work that VSO and their ICS partner organisations do. This money will go towards enabling these organisations to continue giving young people the opportunity to travel overseas and help disadvantaged communities to fight poverty together with local partners and volunteers.
£20 will keep a volunteer midwife in Sierra Leone for one week, training nurses to save mothers from dying in childbirth.
£50 will allow a VSO volunteer in Mozambique to give a woman with HIV the skills needed to start her own business.
I hope you consider supporting me throughout this journey so other young volunteers and local communities in developing countries can keep benefitting from the support that VSO and ICS has to offer.
To fundraise these £800, I will do several different activities to raise
awareness and money in the name of VSO ICS. The first of which was the Edinburgh Half- Marathon on the 28 May
2017 which I finished in 2hours and 17 minutes. I am grateful for everyone who sponsored me for this event.
Any contribution, no matter how big or small, will be much appreciated and will make a difference in someone else’s life!
Thank you so much for your support and I wish you all the best.
Larissa :)
