Louise's story:
On 22nd November 2013 my parents sat me down and told me that my previously healthy, ex army, tough guy Uncle Martyn had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
Not knowing much about pancreatic cancer, I believed that with him being the big strong man I always saw him as, he'd be able to fight through it. Initially hearing he'd have 6 - 12 months I naively thought with chemo he would be ok.
Sadly on 13th December, a mere 3 weeks after I found out, he passed away at a hospice close to home with his family by his side.
Cancer of the pancreas is a very serious form of cancer which is both difficult to detect and treat. Because pancreatic cancer causes few symptoms in its early stages, the condition is often not diagnosed until the cancer is relatively advanced.
I vowed to try and raise as much money as I could for Pancreatic Cancer UK and have roped in my brother and 5 others to run the Royal Parks Half Marathon so we can all do exactly that.
Pancreatic Cancer UK is the only national charity fighting pancreatic cancer on all fronts: Support, Information, Campaigning and Research.
