Story
Six months ago, I faced a short life expectancy, was unable to walk more than a few feet without being in intense pain and was unable to carry out normal everyday chores, due to vascular disease. Thanks to the endeavours of the vascular unit at the Leicester Royal Infirmary over the last 14yrs, which culminated in Feb 2012 with me undergoing major surgery for an aortic bi iliac graft bypass, to give me quality of life - I now have a better life expectancy, am able to walk, have a good quality of life - and feel 'all my birthdays have come at once'.
I would like to show my sincere appreciation to the Vascular Department, by attempting to ascend to the peak of Snowdon on July 24th (aptly my birthday), in order to raise money for the continuing research required, that advances medical knowledge into this debilitating disease.
To go from walking just a few feet, to trekking 5 miles up a mountain and 5 down, 5 months after surgery, will be an extreme challenge for for me (not to mention my chronic vertigo!!) and I would very much appreciate and value your support. Money sponsored will go directly to the Vascular Research, Leicester Royal Infirmary.
If I am successful (fingers crossed), photographic evidence on Facebook will be available at varying stages of the trek.
