Story
In a week’s time I’m going to visit the Hamlin Fistula hospital in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia with a view to further my understanding of obstetric fistula as well as visiting their midwifery school to find out how the job varies, before starting mine for real!
Along with blankets, compression stockings and gloves, I want to take a donation for the hospital so that Dr Hamlin (now in her nineties..!) and her team can continue their amazing work.
If this is something you feel you can support, any pennies and pounds will be put to incredible use!
“These women have suffered more than any woman should be called upon to endure. To meet only one is to be profoundly moved and calls forth the utmost compassion that the human heart is capable of feeling. Mourning the stillbirth of their only child, rejected by their community, incontinent...and ashamed of their offensiveness, they exist without hope.”
