Story
In the UK 850,000 people live with dementia, that’s the same as the seating capacity at 20 packed Premier League football stadiums + Wembley Stadium. I'm supporting Alzheimer's Research UK and tackling dementia head on because the cure is out there - waiting to be discovered by researchers and scientists. We need to invest in research today, to ensure a better tomorrow for our children.
The personal trigger for me is that my mother has dementia and my father also died with the disease at the age of 58 years. I completed my 850,000 steps (370 miles) on 24th July when I walked one step for every UK person diagnosed with dementia. I'm currently contacting all the Premier League clubs inviting them to join in honouring their supporters & local individuals tackling dementia by allowing me to complete a Lap of Honour round their pitch and also to add their weight towards raising 1 research penny for every UK person with dementia (£8,500). It's small fry in Premier League terms, but it's a significant opportunity for the Premier League to step up to honouring people with dementia - folk who so often feel relegated and side-lined due to their difficulties. Lets see how the match plays out! Follow my progress at www.lapofhonour.org
