My husband, Lance, and James are raising money for the Meningitis Trust as I contracted bacterial (pneumococcal) and viral meningitis in March of last year. Had it not been for the quick thinking of my 14 year old son, Cameron, I may not be alive today. After weeks of painful joints and flu symptoms followed by ear ache and vomiting, I either fell asleep or passed out and knew nothing until I was woken up in intensive care four days later! After being rushed to the A & E Department at Frimley Park Hospital, Surrey, I was quickly diagnosed and given immediate treatment. I remained in hospital for nearly four weeks and am so very grateful to everyone involved in getting me back to health especially my family and good friends. There needs to be more awareness for meningitis in adults, it doesn't just happen to babies, toddlers and students so not many people are aware of the symptoms in adults.
