Long time friends and collaborators actor Kevin McKidd, currently a regular on Grey’s Anatomy playing Doctor Owen Hunt, and composer/musician James D. Reid are both from Elgin, Scotland. They were talking together on WhatsApp a few weeks ago about the terrible economic crisis across Scotland and the UK due to the Coronavirus outbreak.
James and Kevin decided that they would try to create a song that might touch the hearts of many and raise some money to help restock the UK’s food banks. Iain Robertson, another pal, got involved in the project and suggested the Trussell Trust as a perfect benefactor for these efforts.
James got busy writing “Leave a Light On”. Kevin, always looking for an excuse to get the old Speyside Sessions band back together, (and assuming that the band members would have time on their hands due to lockdown) reached out to them and got the ball rolling. Many of the old gang — the team that put together the Speyside Sessions album that went straight to No.1 on the iTunes World Music Charts in six different countries: the UK, US, Canada, Australia, Germany & Spain in 2012— and even some new faces quickly engaged with the project.
Some had access to home recording equipment, while others recorded onto their IPhones! Whatever it took under these lockdown restrictions was the name of the game. The song was mixed and completed just last week. It was a delight for the group to feel like they were all coming together even though everyone feels so far apart . We hope you enjoy and feel that spirit of 'coming together' and HOPE in this group effort!
The Trussell Trust, which supports a nationwide network of food banks and provides emergency food and support to people locked in poverty, has had to adapt quickly under Covid-19 and more than ever needs donations to get food supplies out to the hardest hit communities across the UK.
Your donation will make a huge difference. Please give generously and enjoy “Leave a Light On”.
