Story
About 18 months ago I was really unfit and had gradually put on weight until my BMI was over 30 and still climbing. You don’t have to watch too many TV show’s to know that this is not a good place to be, especially for someone with type-1 diabetes and Coeliac disease. Time to do something about this situation before I lose a leg. So I began walking, set myself the challenge to hit the 10,000 steps a day for a week, which I managed without too much trouble. I then gradually increased this to 20,000 steps a day. At this point I found that I just didn’t have the time to regularly walk this number of steps so decided to try jogging following the excellent NHS Choices Couch to 5k podcasts (http://www.nhs.uk/LiveWell/c25k/Pages/couch-to-5k.aspx).
Week 1 was a struggle but after I had completed the 9 week program I was losing weight and running for 30mins without stopping. Time for a new challenge, so I joined a charity challenge to run 100km and raise £100, within the summer months of 2016, I finally raised £140 and ran 140km. So what to do in 2017 !
Just about this time I found that Trail Running Magazine was organising a challenge to run 1000 miles in 2017 and in a moment of madness I signed up. For details you can check out http://www.trailrunningmag.co.uk/run1000miles/ or their Facebook group #Run1000Miles 2017 Trail Running mag
Having recently joined La La Choirs where the singing is really fun but due to work commitments I can only be a part time member. I thought that I would like to use my crazy challenge to try and raise some money for the excellent charity that La La Choirs supports, CLIC Sargent. (http://www.clicsargent.org.uk)
Please give all that you can to support me and I’ll post regular updates of how I am doing.
