Story
Race the Sun is a dawn to dusk triple challenge to help to raise essential funds for the UK-wide charity Action Medical Research.
The charity funds vital research to help sick babies and children. The funds help to save and change children’s lives through medical research, developing treatments, vaccinations and
cures.
Almost everyone has been touched in some way by their ground-breaking work, like the first polio vaccines in the UK, ultrasound in pregnancy and the rubella vaccine.
I am joining a team of 4 people to complete the 3 elements of the course between the sun rising and setting. Based from an event hub within Coniston, the team depart and complete each of the three phases, returning to the hub to transition onto the next phase throughout the day. The three phases are:
BIKE PHASE
The route is approx 40km with 75% off-road and 25% on-road. With single-track and doubletrack and some interesting technical sections just to increase the challenge further
PADDLE PHASE
The team will arrive at Coniston Water to complete a course on the water of approximately 3.5km. Team will do this in a rafted canoe
.
HIKE PHASE
Setting off from the event hub, the out and back route departs to top of Old Man of Coniston. A 9km marshalled and sign posted route via the Copper Mines Valley.
