Story
My belief in miracles is rooted in the life event I experienced when one of my children was treated at Mary Bridge PICU.
As a parent none of us want to get the call that our child is being taken by ambulance to the hospital. Nor do we ever want to hear a doctor say "even if she survives there is likely to be severe brain damage." In 2011, that is what I experienced when my daughter was in a coma and being treated at Mary Bridge PICU. I find it a miracle the treatment
team was able to provide the life saving treatment, heart/lung bypass on an ECMO machine, that my daughter needed but I also find it a miracle that she did not suffer any known brain damage.
I could not be more proud of her as she has a degree from PLU, is a successful, productive and fully independent woman who gives back to society though her employment and creativity. She runs a youth
education program focused on the arts and technology.
While our family was lucky enough to have insurance I know Mary Bridge also provides care for those who don't. Pierce County, like our family, benefits greatly from having a highly skilled local children's hospital. I began donating monthly many years ago but I know I can never repay for the saving of my child's life.
This July 2022, one day during the third week, I was approved to attempt a 24 mile non-stop swim across Lake Erie from Canada
back to Pennsylvania. My hope and goal is to raise $10,000 to support the PICU Dept. @ Mary Bridge. This goal is only possible through the support of family, friends and the greater community.
Thank you for reading my story and your support. If you are interested, watch for updates about my swim later this summer.
