Story
I’m Rosemary Griggs - Lady Katherine’s impersonator. I’ve been a member and active supporter of the National Trust for many years. Visits to the special places the Trust looks after for all of us have given me and my grandchildren so many happy memories to treasure over the years. I want my grandchildren’s grandchildren to have the same opportunities to build up those memories of golden days running through the meadows, walking through the woods surrounded by birdsong, picnicking in glorious gardens or being inspired by the stories incredible ancient buildings like Bradley Manor and Compton Castle have to tell. That’s why I’m supporting the 125 campaign to raise funds for special projects that will help many others enjoy four wonderful places right on my doorstep. Each of these four - Greenway, Coleton Fishacre, Compton Castle and Bradley Manor - have cast their own unique spell over me and my family over the years. I want to make sure that others can feel their magic long into the future.
I've had the chance as a NT volunteer to use my knowledge of history, years of research and study and my dressmaking skills to bring Lady Katherine, a remarkable Devon woman, to life for visitors to Compton Castle. That's given me the confidence to branch out, to learn new skills in my retirement. and to use Lady Katherine's character and costume to tell history in a different way in support of the National Trust and other local museums.
Lady Katherine is out and about telling her tale of life in sixteenth century Devon and revealing the secrets of her wardrobe to all sorts of groups of lovely people. We’ve met local history groups, museum groups, U3A,s and WIs - the list goes on. From now on she will be donating all of her fees to the 125 campaign. Her initial target is to raise £1250.
You can help her exceed that target. If you know of any groups looking for a lively, entertaining and informative speaker please pass on our details.
