Story
Kyle was involved in a serious accident a few years back where he suffered both a severe head injury and serious physical injuries. After the accident, he was treated by the NHS neuro-rehabilitation team. As part of his continuing recovery, Kyle has been working with a team of specialists who suggested that Kyle might like to try some volunteering work to get some work experience. Kyle immediately thought of his local NHS. He said, “When I had the chance to take part in some work experience, I thought of the NHS first because they helped me so much after my accident”. Angie Tillett, Community Fundraising Manager at Colchester Hospital, who works with Kyle said “Since Kyle has been volunteering for us his confidence has really grown. He’s not afraid to roll up his sleeves! We’re only a small team so his help has made a real difference and we are so grateful”.
Kyle had become quite isolated after his accident so volunteering to lend a hand helped Kyle build his confidence and mix with others. Unfortunately, the current COVID-19 lockdown meant all this stopped and Kyle became more isolated again. To tackle this, Kyle has decided to combine his own rehabilitation activities with fundraising for the NHS by completing a basketball challenge. Kyle is going to see how many basketball hoops he can shoot in 12 hours over a four-week period, with his rehab assistant counting every basket (whilst remaining socially distanced!). His target was 350 hoops but after three impressive sessions he decided to increase it to 2000!
This will be a huge physical and mental challenge for Kyle but will benefit so many people who receive support from the wonderful NHS. Will you support him?
