Story
Did you know... Around 3,600 children and young people are diagnosed with cancer every year in the UK and one child in 500 will develop some form of cancer by the age of 14 years?
Each year hundreds of children go to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham for their radiotherapy treatment, which is usually given over 35 days and each time these young patients are anaesthetised to ensure that they don't move during their treatment. The treatment can be a daunting experience for anybody but especially frightening for children.
The SACA charity bike ride will raise money for the hospital to redevelop the radiotherapy department by creating a child friendly recovery room. The hospital also wants to give every child who receives radiotherapy a toy on completion of their treatment, to reward them for their bravery.
I'm trying to do my part by completing this 130 mile bike ride from Birmingham to London, now it's over to you to help...Let's raise as much money as we can to help the children who suffer from this terrible illness recover better.
