About Yorkshire Speak Their Name
We are creating a quilt from squares each one lovingly made to remember someone lost to suicide. We are following in the footsteps of the Speak Their Name: Greater Manchester Suicide Memorial Quilt who launched their finished quilt on World Suicide Prevention Day in 2022
The project also aims to give recognition to those left behind after suicide and acknowledge the impact of this. Anna and I are both such people and have suffered this life changing devastating loss
As part of the Yorkshire Speak Their Name Team we are a team of individuals bereaved to suicide raising awareness and support the work around suicide prevention. We are abseiling in July 150 feet down Liverpool Cathedral in fancy dress!
I lost my husband Ian to suicide in 2015. His death was a complete shock to us all as family and friends and devastated us to the core. Sadly being bereaved to suicide places you in a higher risk of dying to suicide and suicide smashed into my world when my beautiful young daughter Beth took her own life in April 2019. Our hearts were truly broken and the loss of our beautiful girl has left a massive hole and the light has dimmed significantly since her death. I would never want anyone to be faced with this heartbreak and loss of anyone to suicide.
The impact of suicide is devastating and to raise awareness and open conversations to help in all aspects of suicide prevention. By abseiling down Liverpool Cathedral will not only raise awareness but also raise much needed money for Papyrus.
PAPYRUS is the national Charity for the Prevention of Young Suicide. Suicide is the biggest killer of young people under the age of 35 in the UK, in 2018 over 1800 young people took their own lives. PAPYRUS provides confidential support and advice to young people struggling with thoughts of suicide, and anyone worried about a young person through their helpline, HOPELINEUK. Every £5 raised can help pay for a life-saving contact to HOPELINEUK. Your donations really are lifesaving, thank you.
