Story
We are running three half marathons and two 10k's this year to raise money for the National Autistic Society. This is a cause very close to our heart and therefore we are determined to raise as much money and awareness as possible for this organisation.
Georgia was diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Disorder in May 2009 just before her third birthday. After months of worry and wondering, we were handed a leaflet on Autism and advised to read it. The leaflet we were handed had been produced for parents like us by the the National Autistic Society in order to help come to terms with the diagnosis.
This was the moment when Matt and I realised that our daugther was going to need all the help we could give her and that our world had changed forever.
Georgia is non-verbal and virtually in a world of her own but she is such a happy, beautiful girl who brings us joy every day.
Our thoughts extend to what the future may hold for Georgia as autism is still relatively unknown and misunderstood, which means that people get nothing like the level of help, support and understanding they need.
Autism is a lifelong developmental disability, the condition affects people in very different ways. Some are able to live relatively 'everyday' lives, other will require a lifetime of specialist support.
Over 500,000 people in the UK have autism. Together with their families they make up over 2 million people whose lives are touched by autism every single day.
The National Autistic Society champion the rights and interests of all people with autism and aim to provide individuals with autism and their families with help, support and services that they can access, trust and rely upon and which can make a positive difference to their lives.
The work this charity does is fantastic and we would be honoured if you could support us in making a difference by sponsoring us for the following runs: -
Brentwood Half Marathon - 21st March 2010
Bupa London 10,000 - 31st May 2010
British 10k London Run - 11th July 2010
Bupa Great North Run - 19th September 2010
Royal Parks Half Marathon - 10th October 2010
Thank you all so much.
