Story
I am excited to get to the construction site this spring and help raise funds for Habitat through Women Build! This year, we will be working on homes in the Odie Street neighborhood in Hillsborough.
Our featured homeowner is Star, a single mom with two girls looking forward to moving into their Habitat home. Star works in the Lenoir Dining Hall at UNC Chapel Hill as a supervisor and has enjoyed living in this area for the past 10 years. She currently lives in public housing in Chapel Hill and has turned to Habitat to purchase an affordable home. She wants a stable place in which her kids can grow up.
As part of the homebuying process, Habitat homebuyers are required to put in 275 hours of 'sweat equity' building their future homes and the homes of their neighbors. Star was eager to begin and has already started building at the construction site! "When you said sweat equity, you weren't playing! But it's good to be out there and meet new people", said Star. "You don't understand what it means. For this to happen and the struggle to be over. I almost gave up, but I did this for my kids and I'm so glad I did. I don't know where I'd be without Habitat".
Make a donation today to support hardworking homebuyers like Star!
