Story
11 years ago a small group of us cycled from Channel 4 to the Eiffel Tower in 24 hours to raise money for our friend Emily's charity, after her son Eli was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. That became the Duchenne Dash, which is now a huge event in which over 140 riders made the gruelling journey from the Velodrome in Herne Hill to Newhaven, onto the sleepless overnight ferry to Dieppe and on to Paris. It's around 300km, and it hurts. All money raised from the Duchenne Dash funds vital research and accelerates the development of treatments for Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Since we started a huge amount of scientific progress has been made, much of it due to the work of the charity Duchenne UK. With a genetic heart condition diagnosed a few years ago my own Dash is somewhat slower these days as I have to be a little careful. So I will be doing some of it on my normal road bike and some on an electric road bike which helps get me up the hills without finishing me off. It is still a long time pedalling and in the saddle! Please donate and together, we will end Duchenne!
