Story
On Sunday 30th August we are going to take on a summer challenge for MDUK, who need our help during the pandemic so they can keep supporting families like mine.
Along with some family members, who will do all or part of the challenge, I will complete a 60km bike ride around NW London and Hertfordshire. The ride will finish at a 400m running track in Ruislip that I will then run around 60 times, which is 24km (a half marathon is 21.08km). I hoping friends and family will be able to come along and run/walk/push around the track with me with me. The whole challenge should take between 5-6 hours non-stop. So far we have the following involved...
Krishan and Rajiv - 60km bike ride, 60 x 400m laps running
Mahesh, Sanjiv, Amit - 60km bike ride
Anita, Gurm, Rita, Anya, Reshmi, Jayesh, Anjali, Kavi, Shila and Jeshu- 6km run/walk around the track
Avani - 6 laps on her bike around the track, without stabilisers!
MDUK have supported us for over 27 years. The most recent support we've received is through their advocacy team who have enabled us to get the care needed for my sister. It was a really long, painful and drawn out battle with the local council. But with MDUK's support and attendance at meetings we were able to get the care plan which was rightfully deserved. With my mother being hospitalised over the last year this new care plan will help my sister live independently and also improve my parents quality of life. We would not have got this without the support of MDUK and their advocacy team. This is a snapshot of the amazing work they do for people with muscle-wasting conditions.
For more than 60 years, MDUK have been funding world-class research into potential treatments and have been there to provide vital support for families living with over 60 rare muscle-wasting conditions. Unfortunately, like many charities, the COVID-19 pandemic is having a big impact on MDUK's fundraising events and MDUK estimates a loss of £2.8m of income this year. It's so important that they're here to continue their work for the years to come and I hope to help by taking on my #Big60Challenge. All donations, big or small, are greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
