Story
In August 2011 my good friend Tara took her own life. She suffered from bulimia, which along with associated depression was a major contributing factor in her death. She was a bright, genuine and caring person, I'm glad to have had her in my life and proud to have called her a friend.
In her memory, on August 19th 2017 - the weekend of the 6th anniversary of her death - I have decided to run a Tough Mudder to raise money for Beat, a charity which supports people with eating disorders. Having an eating disorder can be an overwhelming and isolating experience and no-one should have to go through that alone. The work Beat does - in support, education, and research - is amazing, so please give a little if you can, it would mean a lot to me.
"Tough Mudder is a 10-12 mile mud and obstacle course designed to drag you out of your comfort zone by testing your physical strength, stamina, and mental grit. With no podiums, winners, or clocks to race against, it’s not about how fast you can cross the finish line. Rather, it’s a challenge that emphasizes teamwork, camaraderie, and accomplishing something almost as tough as you are."
But it's not just Tough Mudder I'm doing in 2017. I've got a whole raft of things lined up as part of my fundraising...
4th June - Run the River 15k - a 15km trail race.
9th July - Two Tunnels Half Marathon (Bath)
16th July - Run the River 2 15km - as above.
19th August - Tough Mudder - 12 mile muddy obstacle race
17th September - Bristol Half Marathon
12th November - Sodbury Slog - 10 mile hilly muddy race.
That's got to be worth a couple of quid right? :)
