My name is Knowshin and I am mum to Ayaan! 

Ayaan was born with Joubert Syndrome, we were first introduced to Shooting Star Chase in 2009. We mainly used their services for respite.

However, life took an ugly turn in 2015 when Ayaan’s lung collapsed. After many months of living in hospitals and lots of failed procedures, we were told that his lung could not be reinflated and the doctors deemed him as ‘terminal’.

We were told he had weeks left, and at that point I decided the only thing I could control was where my son could spend his remaining days/weeks.

It was then we decided to move Ayaan to SSC, under the care of AK and her wonderful team. 

Life took a very unexpected turn, the support, love and amazing service that we received from SSC not only helped Ayaan but also me in coping with everything that was going on.

We lived at the hospice for a month and a bit only for Ayaan to stabilise and for us to be able to go home. 

Since then, Ayaan is still classified as end of life care, as he has one working lung and is on continuous oxygen. However we have turned those weeks into years and counting. 

I know I wouldn’t have been able to do this without the amazing support of SSC. It really is the happiest place in the world. 

I’m doing this walk for Ayaan and all the children like my son who SSC have helped and is continuing to help!
