Story
The Oxford Drunken Knitwits (http://www.drunkenknitwits.com) spent months preparing for this huge project in support of Oxfordshire Mind, a local charity that provides a wide range of services to those affected by mental health problems. Knitting has recently been demonstrated to improve mental wellbeing, so what better way to raise money for Mind than by boosting our own wellbeing in the process?
To add a little cheer to the heart of Oxford and raise awareness of the wonderful work being done by Mind, our roving band of guerrilla crafters has transformed the fence around the Radcliffe Camera into a colourful garden of handmade flowers, vines, bees, and butterflies! Many local community members contributed, as well as generous knitters from further afield! The Radcliffe Camera is one of the most iconic buildings in Oxfordshire and sees heavy foot traffic daily, particularly during the busy summer tourist season. Our unmissable art installation will be sure to bring a smile to the faces of passers-by, and we think this “yarnstorming” project is the biggest, brightest, and best Oxford’s ever seen!
