Royal Parks Half Marathon 2015 · 11 October 2015 ·

In low- and middle-income countries fewer than 1 in 10 children with cancer are diagnosed, treated or given pain relief. World Child Cancer improves cancer care for some of the world’s poorest children by creating international twinning partnerships between medics hospitals and parent support groups

Story

At Knight Harwood, we are rising to the challenge of running the Royal Parks Half Marathon on Sunday 11th October. It is the perfect opportunity to embrace new challenges and make positive contributions in both the workplace and the local community.

We look forward to taking part in this great event and are delighted to be running for World Child Cancer, an inspirational charity that provides treatment for children with cancer not fortunate enough to live in the developed world.

Childhood Cancer is highly curable, and here in the UK survival rates are on average 80%. Yet in the developing world, survival rates can be as low as 5%, resulting in over 100,000 children dying needlessly every year from the disease. Most also dying without any effective pain relief. World Child Cancer is a UK charity dedicated to improving the standards of treatment, diagnosis and care of children from low and middle income countries from across the world.

This is achieved by increasing local specialist cancer expertise and knowledge and by providing essential drugs and resources.  Each project is created to be sustainable and achieves its aims by using the support, expertise and resources of the rich, developed world.

Relatively small amounts of money can give a child the chance of life. For example, £50 will pay for chemotherapy drugs for 1 child with cancer at our project in Ghana.  In the UK we take it for granted that children will be diagnosed and treated for cancer, in low and middle income countries, this is not the case.

As we prepare ourselves for the Royal Parks Half Marathon, we invite you to become part of this experience with us by supporting our journey to the finish line.
