Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I may be slightly mental but in April I will be running/plodding in the London Marathon, I am doing this for my own personal challenge but also to raise money for the Brain and Spine Foundation.
Last year I was incredibly unwell and it had a huge effect on me and my family. At school I was struggling with headaches and when this was investigated further I was told I had swollen optic nerves as a result of pressure on my brain.
After a worrying couple of days in hospital the DRS ruled out a brain tumour and after 2 lumbar punctures I was discharged and allowed home with no formal diagnosis. I then became incredibly unwell and had stroke like symptoms which again was a result of the increase in pressure on my brain.
I spent 2 months in and out of hospital and had over 10 lumbar punctures to relieve the pressure on my brain. The DRs at Birmingham Hospital said I had a condition called IIH. I then got rushed to hospital in as my eyesight was being impacted and I had developed tunnel vision and loss of vision in my right eye due to the pressure on my optic nerves. It was then decided that I would have a spinal tap and Lumboperitoneal shunt fitted, which has had the desired effect and since has kept my pressure down to a level that I am now able to work, exercise again and see properly.
This condition came from nowhere and for no reason, it massively impacted my health, emotional and mental well-being. Therefore I would like to raise money for BSF to support a charity that supports people who similar battles to my own, to promote the help and support available for people from BSF and to raise awareness of the condition I have.
