Story
1/4 people will experience a mental health issue during their lifetime yet for some reason mental health is something that we don't like to talk about. This is true especially amongst men, who are told to "man up" or "grow some balls" when they try to talk about their emotions. This appalling attitude society holds towards mental health problems amongst men leads to men feeling the need to bottle up their feelings and to not talk about them. Suicide remains the biggest killer of men under 35 and in 2014 76% of all suicides were men, these shocking statistics could be changed with the removal of the stigma of mental health illnesses.
SO I am running a marathon in support of Mind because Mind works to reduce the stigma around mental health problems and believes that no one should have to face a mental health problem alone. People who know me well will know sometimes I find stairs a struggle after a long day at work so running a marathon is going to be quite a challenge but Mind is such a great charity that is personally very important to me so I'm going to have to get off my arse and do some training.
