In December 2017 Kirsty’s mother Laraine was diagnosed with MND. For those of you who knew her mum you are aware that with her background as a Clinical Nurse Specialist (Breast Care) / Palliative care nurse for over 38 years but also a Breast Cancer surviver, research and clinical trials into any illness or disease was incredibly important to her.
Sadly on the 24th August 2018 Kirstys Mum passed away peacefully at Florence Nightingale House in Stoke Mandeville ( where she was the first Macmillan nurse)
It was Laraines wish to donate tissue after death to also help with research to find a cure for MND.
In honour of Laraine’s memory, Kirsty and friends (The Oxhill Rowers) are rowing (on rowing machines) the distance of the English Channel and back - 42 miles in total the equivalent of The Boat Race (4.2 miles)for each team member on the 27th October 2018 at Stratford Upon Avon Leisure Centre.
The aim is to raise money for research and for the South Bucks Branch of MNDA (who supported Kirstys Mum and continue to support Kirsty & her family). This will be a HUGE challenge as we are not rowers!!
On behalf of Kirsty’s family, The Oxhill Rowers and all those affected by MND thanks you so much for your donations. - It really means so much and you are helping make steps to finding a cure for this devastating disease.
Thank you!!!
