Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am doing the Great North Run for the MS Society. This is a charity that means a lot as I have a friend who was diagnosed with MS only a few years ago.
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is the most common disabling neurological condition affecting young adults. Fifty people are diagnosed with MS each week and most are aged between 20 and 40, although my friend recently told me about a 5 year old girl who had been diagnosed. For some people MS is characterised by periods of relapse and remission, while for others it has a progressive pattern. For everyone it makes life unpredictable.
The MS Society is the largest charity in the UK dedicated to supporting everyone whose life is affected by MS. Their vision is a world free from the often devastating effects of this condition. Their mission is to enable everyone affected by MS to live their life to their full potential and secure the care and support they need, until they ultimately find a cure.
Some of their key services include:
- £2 million a year invested in MS research
- Freephone helpline
- MS nurses and healthcare professionals
- Respite care homes
- Award-winning publications and website
- Welfare grants for mobility aids and home adaptations
