Story
My story begins June of 2023 I woke up and my right leg was swollen. I had been bitten by something. I immediately went to A&E feeling concerned and wondering what had happened. My blood test results came back and I had not only been diagnosed with venom infection off of a bite, but I also had been diagnosed with an hereditary, condition of an under-active thyroid .
This was a massive shock to me,but not a surprising one due to my mother, my two sisters and Auntie and various family members suffering with this hormonal dysfunction. Although receiving this news was something, I never thought I’d have. It has given me a massive wake up regarding my health , my sleep and my diet.
Hypothyroidism is something that isn’t spoken about enough I thought that there isn’t enough research to understand why our body doesn’t make enough hormones to regulate. Spreading awareness allows for me to bring together the people who suffer to bring their voices forward and spread the awareness and raise money.
I am running the London Marathon on Sunday, the 21st of April. This is exactly 26.2 miles. The charity donations will be going to the British Thyroid foundation. This is the most gruelling and challenging experience as your mind and body are really put to the test. I know what to expect as I run the London Marathon in 2021 not only was it an experience it taught me to push through barriers and limitations that I never thought I could break.
This cause is so close to home for me, and I really feel that by spreading awareness using our voices, social media and word of mouth we can do exactly that. I’m not just asking for money for donations. This is about supporting a great course and making sure that research is conveyed in the right way for people to receive the right treatments.
That said any donations are so greatly appreciated. I will be the running burglar with my sack of cash and my striped top.
Let’s smash this raising awareness and help me to get this marathon done the right way
Many thanks
Kirsty
