We focus on early diagnosis and awareness to improve survival of pancreatic cancer

Story

Raising money for charity became very important to me when I lost my mum in 2014 to pancreatic cancer.

My mum, Betty, was diagnosed in Summer of 2013, and died on April 30th 2014. She battled hard and survived for ten short months, which is considered a long survival time for this type of cancer. Compared with many other cancers, the combined five-year survival rate for pancreatic cancer—the percentage of all patients who are living five years after diagnosis—is very low at just 5 to 10 percent. Raising money will allow for more research to be carried out studying this cancer, and hopefully help other patients diagnoses to be found earlier to save more lives.

Unfortunately, my family are on this journey again. My sister, Karen, was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.. which has also spread to her bones. While this is incurable - it is treatable. Karen is a strong lady, she will fight this disease with all the strength and courage she has shown us over the years.

To raise money for these two charities, I wanted to challenge myself by doing sunrise swims in the sea @ Aberdeen beach for sunrise over ten days. I’m not great in water and absolutely hate being cold! 🥶😳 I have some of my amazing (mad) friends joining me doing this challenge!! We all hope to raise as much money as possible for these two worthy charities.

Please dig deep and help us raise some money. It’s been a very odd year for everyone I know, and money is tight. But unfortunately, this disease has no mercy. Any donation, big or small, will help us out hugely!

Thanks in advance for any donations, help and encouragement! Thank you to my friends who are giving up their time to do this challenge with me - I appreciate it more than you know.. And Karen, we are going to beat it this time. I love you x
