Story

Perhaps you've not heard of Headway, perhaps you'll be lucky enough to never need their help. But for the thousands of people, young and old, men and women, who've experienced the devastation a serious head injury can cause, Headway has been a shining light in an otherwise dark time.

My future brother-in-law, Gavin, was in a car crash at just 19 years of age. He was nothing but a boy, but he and his family were faced with the horrendous task of rebuilding their lives after that crash. Gavin was left in coma for several weeks. When he came to, his short term memory was shot. Headway helped Gavin rebuild his life, and helped his family deal with the impact of the tumultuous change.

Small things like having a Headway representative visit Gavin at his home, help him cut carrots for the Sunday roast, go on walks, asking constant questions - all of these things helped get Gavin back to full health.

Gavin is the most energetic person I know. Everything he does, he tackles with gusto! Since I've known him, he's travelled the world, worked in every area you can think of, ran races faster than me(!), ran aerobics classes, taken up karate....the list goes on!

I'm facing my biggest challenge to raise money for this wonderful charity. 26.2 miles will be tough, but the inspiration to run for Headway will get me over that finish line! Please give generously to this cause. You kind contributions will be most welcome.

Wish me luck!!!

Kirsty
