Story
I have decided to take on the Manchester marathon which takes place on the 16th April 2023. I have always wanted to challenge myself to running a marathon and I feel like this is the perfect opportunity. I only started running again in April 22 and have been mainly doing 5ks with the odd 10k. I will be running to raise money for a charity extremely close to mine and my families hearts, Prevent Breast Cancer.
In 2018 we received the news that my mum had stage 2 breast cancer. At the time we had just moved to the Manchester area and luckily it was discovered during a routine mammogram appointment. Following her diagnosis she had a lumpectomy and then underwent chemotherapy and radiotherapy for around 6 months.
In December 2018 whilst my mum was in the midst of having chemotherapy, my auntie was also diagnosed with stage 2 lobular breast cancer. My auntie underwent a mastectomy and hormone therapy.
During my childhood when I was around 6 years old my dads sister was diagnosed with breast cancer so breast cancer has always influenced mine and my families lives.
My mum and 2 aunties received the all clear when their treatments finished and continue to get regular check ups. Since my mum received her all clear she has been volunteering for Prevent Breast Cancer and has been involved in some amazing campaigns with them. Raising money for prevent breast cancer gives me the opportunity to give money back to a charity who focuses on educating women and men of signs of breast cancer.
My mum and my aunties are my hero’s, I am not just running this for them. I am running this for all the other women in my life. My sister, my grans, aunties, cousins, friends, friends daughters and our future generation.
My mum, my auntie Aileen and my auntie Brenda are my motivation and strength whilst I am training, which is well and truly underway. If you would like to follow my progress please follow my Strava.
