Story
Hello, I’m Kirsty and I’m SO excited to be taking part in the ‘Strictly, best foot forward’ event to raise money for Bury Hospice this year.
Why am I doing this? Well, one reason is because I absolutely LOVE to dance and I’m really excited to explore and unlock new skills through the 9 weeks of training in ballroom dancing. But the other, and most important reason, is that I want to help Bury Hospice as much as I can.
Why does this mean so much to me? As most of my friends and family will know, this year, I have unfortunately been present in the last weeks of a loved ones life. The toll that this takes on family and friends is unbearable and it is one of the hardest things I’ve been through in my life. Seeing someone that we loved and care for being so poorly and seeing how this affects loved ones is just harrowing. I now understand first hand the struggles that are faced through this difficult and emotional time. This is why having a hospice as an option on these final days is such an important thing and why, for the residents of Bury, Bury hospice is so important. The ability for the hospice and the staff to be there for a family going through this difficult time is invaluable. They do an an amazing job, and I want to help them to be able to continue the incredible work they do.
Bury hospice is a massive part of the community and helps as many of its residents as is physically possible. At the beginning of this journey, we entered and toured the hospice. If I’m completely honest, I was a little nervous to go in, not only because as human beings we’ve been programmed to fear death, but because this really is where people go to live their last days. How scary and sad is that? I thought. But I couldn’t have been more wrong. I can’t actually explain the feeling of walking in there, it was like receiving a big hug, it felt like a safe space and I can’t imagine that someone going through this difficult time would want much more than that for their loved one. The determination and drive that I felt after walking out means I know I will put my all in to the routines and dance my little size 3 feet off. 💃🏼🩰👯♀️🕺🏼🪩
The aim of every contestant is to raise £500 which is an amazing amount. As ever, I’m being ambitious, and I want to aim for £1,000. Once you get to this amount you get your own engraved heart on the wall as a reminder that you’ve done your bit 🤍 please have a look below at how your donations can help ⬇️ LET’S DO THIS 💪🏻
It costs £4million pounds to run Bury Hospice, and as a charity we have to raise £3.5 million through community support. Every donation makes a difference.
