Story
I have been volunteering with the Halliday foundation for 2 years and within that time I have seen the extraordinary work that they do to support the local community. Based in the East end of Glasgow, The Halliday foundation provide many services such as our pop up shops, which currently runs 3 times a week in different locations all over Glasgow, which provides a weeks worth of food and sometimes clothes. This is where I volunteer most and where I have seen the urgent and ever increasing need for this vital service. The charity also makes up many food parcels that are delivered to people in need and kettle packs which are made up of hygiene and comfort items for people living in temporary hostels to help address mental wellbeing.
Houses2homes helps up to twenty households per week, where volunteers collect donated furniture and white goods to deliver to households in need as referred by local community partners. Being able to take action quickly and turn Council allocated "house into a home" both complements Glasgow Council housing policy and prevents vulnerable people going back onto the streets.
Thrive is the charity's children's department where they support children's wellbeing, learning and development by providing free weekly family workshops, toddler groups and events. The project also provides free support, fuel vouchers, advice and baby essentials such as nappies and clothing for those in need. I have seen first hand the toddler groups that are always busy and heard great feedback from parents, who rely on Thrive and the important work that they do.
The charity also run a a busy community cafe in Parkhead.
The Halliday foundation is a fast growing, vital service that needs donations to continue the work that they do.
