Story
When we discovered that I was pregnant with Jack, we had no idea of the journey we had ahead of us. My pregnancy was perfect with no complications, then at 34 weeks, I was admitted into hospital with the early signs of labour. We kept him in there for as long as possible, but at 35 weeks, my waters broke and he was coming whether we liked it or not.
He was born five weeks early weighing 5lb 12oz, and within minutes of birth he was hooked to machines and being cared for in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and I didnt see him until 6 hours later.
He was severely jaundiced and the only way I could feed him was via a tube through his nose. This came completely natural to me as he was my first baby and I knew no better, but I had desperately wanted to feed him myself. He was pumped full of antibiotics to reduce his risk of catching a fatal infection from me, which resulted in him being very sore and developing a very painful rash. I couldn't even hold my tiny newborn. It was horrendous.
12 days later, and things had improved for Jack! His tube was removed, he was opening his eyes, wriggling and I could hold him and cuddle him.
We know just how lucky we were in that we was able to bring our baby home. Some parents endured the nightmare of losing their babies, or spend weeks sitting outside of their babies incubator wondering 'what if'.
The only people that can relate to the pain and heartbreak of not being able to hold their baby are the ones that have been through it themselves, however I am asking you to dig deep into your heart and help us support the charity that enables hospitals and nurses to care for these tiny little fighters and help bring them home!
Any donation, no matter how big or small, will be put to extremely good use. Thank you so much.
