Story
Most of you will know my lovely Dad Dennis died earlier this year. He was lucky enough to have been transferred to St Peter’s in Bristol having been in hospital in Bath.
Prior to him being acutely unwell he was supported in both his own home and mine by Dorothy House specialist nurses.
We knew he was in good hands as sadly Mum had died in the hospice 10 years ago. She received limitless compassion and kindness. Their expert care extended to our family after she died and we are so grateful.
Dad really liked his nurse, and alongside providing advice about symptom control and treatments she got to know the man he was. He decided what he wanted and she did whatever she could to make it happen and have the confidence to just go for it!
The hospice was only ever a phone call away and I knew that even if his nurse wasn’t working, whoever I spoke to would make it their job to help us. Even if it was just to listen. Knowing we were not alone was so comforting and allowed us to feel looked after and cared for . I am a nurse and they let me be a daughter.
We were so lucky to have my Dad for as long as we did.
People we love never leave us. Elsie and Alice would like to celebrate their Pops at Christmas by raising money to help others receive the care he did. We have signed up to do a fancy dress run; Neil and I are Santa’s and the girls are elves!
An hour of nursing care on the in patient unit costs £35.47. Two hours for a patient visiting the day patient unit costs £66.50. £217 pays for a carer to stay overnight at someone’s home
I’m a bit embarrassed asking for sponsorship but if you have some pennies you could spare for a very good cause we would all be very grateful
